For the past several years hyper-koto player Michiyo Yagi and her favorite drummer, the dynamic Tamaya Honda, have been hosting a series of trio gigs (informally named "Aketa Dojo") featuring a variety of illustrious instrumentalists (Akira Sakata, Jim O'Rourke, Sachi Hayasaka, etc.) as a third member. The Brisbane-based guitarist Yusuke Akai may be their most obscure guest yet, but he's no slouch either. Fans of left-field fretboard freaks such as Sonny Sharrock and Joe Morris are sure to be blown away by this extraordinary young virtuoso.
