Finland-born, Denmark-based Johanna Sulkunen (voice & electronics) will present a concert/workshop entitled SONORITY at Minami-Aoyama Baroom (https://baroom.tokyo) on Sunday, November 23rd. The first half of the concert portion of the program will be a solo performance by Johanna, and the second half will be a duo with Michiyo Yagi (koto & electronics). Free admission with advance reservations.

SONORITY: A world where voice, language, and technology converge... This concert and workshop invites you to experience an immersive audiovisual space where everyday speech is transformed into music. Participants will experiment with their own voice through guided exercises, exploring how each voice merges into a shared experience. Immerse yourself in a living soundscape of timbre, syllables, and breath, and experience the moment when listening and creating become one. At its core, SONORITY is a hybrid pseudo-language: an evolving sonic language that weaves together elements of Danish, English, and Japanese. It is both familiar and abstract, yet without a fixed meaning. It transcends linguistic and cultural boundaries, inviting emotional and sensory connections through tone, rhythm, and resonance. An immersive multi-speaker system and responsive live visuals create a synesthetic experience where technology, sound, image, and emotion intersect. No vocal experience is necessary. Singers, listeners, and the curious are all welcome. SONORITY is a space where voice becomes a vehicle for connection, creating a shared, lived experience and experimentation for all participants.
