summer sonic festival - buying tickets abroad?

does anyone know anything about purchasing summer sonic tickets from overseas?

i'm from australia and travelling to japan in july/august and would love to go to summer sonic, but i've read that tickets can't be purchased internationally. can anyone confirm/deny this?

I tried everything last year and had no success buying directly. Eventually found a friend of a friend who lived in Japan who bought me the tickets. Let me know if you find an alternative way.
