♪ This is our second time performing as a trio, also known as the Chomolungma Trio! Come and experience a night of thrilling, dense improvisation up close at Nakano-sakaue Aja.
Shoji Hano (Drums) A veteran innovator of free jazz and improvised drumming, Shoji Hano is renowned for his powerful, highly responsive, and expressive rhythmic style. Having collaborated with world-renowned figures across the global avant-garde scene—including Peter Brötzmann, Derek Bailey, Keiji Haino, Hans Reichel, and Evinonne Parker—Hano brings an intense, organic drive that pushes any ensemble to its limits.
Mitsuru Tabata (Guitar) A seminal figure in Japan’s experimental and psychedelic music scene since 1982, Mitsuru Tabata is an original member of Boredoms and a longtime member of Zeni Geva. With a rich history spanning influential groups like Acid Mothers Temple, YBO2, and Leningrad Blues Machine, Tabata is renowned for his mastery of effect-heavy soundscapes, crushing riffs, and fearless free improvisation.
Satoe Kobayashi (Alto Saxophone) Representing the new generation of Japanese creative improvisers, young saxophonist Satoe Kobayashi brings a fresh, bold, and raw energy to the ensemble. Her sharp phrasing and fiery instinctual play cut through the heavy, veteran rhythm section, breathing vibrant dynamic contrast into the trio’s sonic dialogue.
