A world-class violinist, artist, writer and teacher shares his passion for improvising in music and in LIFE. A great opportunity for musicians, artists, spiritually-minded people and everyone to discover a unique, playful approach to life and art!

STEPHEN NACHMANOVITCH performs and teaches internationally as an improvisational violinist, and at the intersections of music, dance, theater, and multimedia arts. He has presented workshops in improvisation at Juilliard, the Yehudi Menuhin School, and many universities. Born in the USA in 1950, he studied at Harvard and the University of California (Ph.D. in the History of Consciousness). He has also created computer software programs such as Visual Music Tone Painter to accompany his performances.

Stephen is the author of "Free Play: Improvisation in Life and Art" (Penguin, 1990, over 200,000 sold). The book received accolades from the likes of Yehudi Menuhin, Keith Jarrett and Norman Cousins. It has been translated into 8 languages, most recently into Japanese, resulting in his first visit to Japan for his FREE PLAY TOKYO TOUR this month.

Morgan is delighted to welcome Stephen to Morgan Salon, for the first of his four events in Tokyo. The evening will include live improvisations by Stephen and Morgan separately and together, projections of Stephen's "visual music" videos and Morgan's light paintings, and Stephen's deeply insightful and fascinating 
talk on improvisation in music and in life (in English with Japanese translation). There will also be some simple improvisation exercises we can all try together (no instruments required).
