The collaboration between Piero Bittolo Bon and Andrea Grillini has flourished over the past decade, encompassing their roles as leaders of projects like PBB's Bread & Fox and Yoruba, their partnership in the Tower Jazz Composers Orchestra, their work with Stefano Dallaporta in the Rex Kramer trio, and their involvement in numerous other configurations within the vibrant musical community bridging Bologna and Ferrara. SPELL//HUNGER epitomizes this journey: Bittolo Bon and Grillini channel their sonic explorations on saxophones and drums into an improvisational language rich with ancestral echoes, weaving narratives that straddle shamanic rituals and the theater of the absurd. The album features eleven tracks, each a unique story born from an intense recording session expertly overseen by Antonio Castiello and Aldo De Sanctis at Jambona Lab Studio in Livorno. The album's cover, a blend of the eerie and the whimsical, is a remarkable virtual reality sculpture crafted by Iranian artist Parsa Mostaghim specifically for this project.
