The archaeologist Chris Gosden describes magic as participation — the moment when human beings and the universe enter into direct relationship.
Magic appears when the world responds.
When we listen.
When we call out.
When exchange becomes possible.
Culture, in its deepest sense, emerges from this relationship.
It is not simply the expression of individual creativity, but something that arises when everyday life becomes infused with depth — when living itself becomes a form of prayer.
Vai e Volta creates a space where such listening and participation can unfold through sound.

「Vai e Volta」とは、ある随筆の筆者のもとに巡ってきた紙幣にペンで書かれていたという言葉であり、そこでは「行け、そして帰ってこい」と訳されていたと記憶している。手元にあるメモには「Vai e Volte」とあるが、これでは意味を成さないようなので、私が書き誤ったか、或いは誤植であったのかもしれない。この随筆がどの書物に載っていたのかいくら探しても判らず途方に暮れているのだが、ともかくとして、このどこの誰ともわからぬ人物が書き記した言葉、そのさゝやかな諧謔や、祈りのような響きに、この身は確かに共鳴したのである。

音楽と呼ばれるものが、そう名付けられる遥か以前から、途方もない距離と時間を、先も後もなく、ゆきて還り、廻り巡りて、私たちの身体にいっとき宿るか、宿らぬか。身体はあらゆるものから予感し、知るより先に遠き日の「かつて」や「いつか」の内にある。あらゆる者がそうしていた時は確かに在った。耳を澄ませば音もそう記憶していることがわかるだろう。
