Baku Tsunoda
As the first Japanese artist to release a debut album, ‘The Floating Glass Key in the Sky,’ on the prestigious British alternative dance music label Ninja Tune.
He gained worldwide acclaim for his fantastical and constructed soundscapes, and was selected as one of “100 Japanese People Respected by the World” in the Japanese edition of Newsweek (October 26, 2005 issue).
Following this, after approximately ten years of production, he released his second album, The Shape Of The Cloud, in 2015 as a solo project. The work earned high praise for its fusion of meticulous sound design and poetic compositional beauty.
After temporarily suspending his musical activities, he released two digital singles in 2017.
Since then, he has continued working at his own pace yet energetically, including participating in the “Bar Music” series (2019–2020) of 7-inch EPs released by the label Musica Nossa Grips, run by Tomoo Nakamura, owner of “Bar Music” – known as an oasis for music fans in a corner of Shibuya.

Drawing inspiration from a wide range of influences—from Ainu and Central Asian traditional music to contemporary compositions and club sounds—he transports listeners to another world through his unique rhythms and harmonic expressions. Beyond solo performances, he actively collaborates with DJs and artists, creating new musical experiences that bridge nature and humanity, ancient and modern.
