egal German term that expresses indifference or a lack of concern towards something. Signifies a state of being unconcerned or impartial about a particular matter, implying a sense of indifference or nonchalance. [e:ga'] is a duo blending elements of noise, language, theater, and performance art. The collaboration between Bastian Buddenbrock and Fabian Neubauer showcases a unique fusion of their respective backgrounds in performance art and experimental music. Buddenbrock, drawing from his experience in performance art, particularly with a focus on language and repetition, has been collaborating with musicians and soundartists for several years to expand the auditory dimension of his work. In the performance, his voice and sounds - generated with objects and his own body - are captured by multiple microphones and then modulated by both himself and Neubauer using various techniques. Neubauer, originally rooted in free jazz and improvised music, explores a diverse range of instruments, including piano, drums, guitar, as well as various forms of electronic sound production, such as effects processing and feedback-based analog sound generation. Utilizing feedback generated from a mixer, multiple microphones, effects units, and radios, Neubauer adds layers of complexity to the sound. Additionally, he incorporates non-electronic elements into the performance, seamlessly integrating it into the overall expressive tapestry of language, sound, movement and silence. Through improvisation and experimentation, Buddenbrock and Neubauer invite the audience into a sphere where boundaries blur and conventional norms are challenged. ‘egal’ transcends categorization, offering an immersive experience that is both thought-provoking and emotionally resonant.

Previously KOENJI ONE was in the same location.
Head out the south exit of Koenji Station and go right until you reach the covered shopping arcade called Pal. Head down Pal and just after Village Vanguard, turn right. Go past the Seiyu and Bar One is on the right, in the basement of a building just after the 7-11.
