I met Carlos Garnett, also known as the member of Art Blakey and Miles Davis bands in N.Y., when he was 57 years old, my current age. Carlos Garnett was recovering from depression at the time and practicing hard to get back into action. I spent 15 years as his regular drummer, and above all, he was a true player himself, with an aura of a " genuine artist" whose passion for music shows no signs of waning. He passed away this year at the age of 85. Do I have the same kind of high spirits now that he had back then? As I was feeling remorseful, I heard his voice saying, "Shingo, you still have a long way to go!" Okay, I'll do it.

Come out of JR Shinjuku station East exit in front of Alta. Walk right down Shinjuku-dori, pass Mitsukoshi and Isetan department stores. Keep going until you get to the Shinjuku 2-chome intersection. Turn left here and you can find Pit Inn on the right in the basement of the Accord Building.
