‘Not Seeing Is A Flower’ Japan tour 2019 celebrates the release of new music by Japanese free jazz saxophonist Akira Sakata, Russian born, Cologne-based pianist Simon Nabatov, Tokyo bassist Takashi Seo and Australian drummer Darren Moore. ‘Not Seeing Is A Flower’ (Leo Records 2018) is the culmination of a 6-city tour of Japan in November 2017 that aligned four musicians from different orbits. The album captures the fire, intensity and range of the quartet’s musical explorations. Recorded live at the legendary Jazz Spot Candy in Chiba prefecture on the final date of the tour, the recording can be seen as a distillation of the group’s character that developed over the short period of one week on the road.

Akira Sakata is regarded as one of Japan‘s living treasures having begun his career in the Yosuke Yamashita Trio before leading his own groups and working with the leaders of improvised music such as Peter Brotzmann, Peter Kowald, Han Bennick, John Zorn, Ronald „Shannon“Jackson, Sonny Sharrock and Jim O‘Rourke to name but a few.

Simon Nabatov has attained world-wide reputation through his solo concerts as well as numerous long-time collaborations in duos with Steve Lacy, Nils Wogram, Tom Rainey, Han Bennink, Ernst Reijseger and Matthias Schubert; with the NDR Bigband; in quartets of Ray Anderson, Arthur Blythe and Perry Robinson, among others.

Takashi Seo is one of the most in-demand bass players in the Tokyo jazz and improvised music scene, known for his ability to traverse genre and bring energy to the bandstand. He works regularly with jazz legends Fumio Itabashi and Satoko Fujii as well as a host of visiting artists to Japan

Darren Moore is a drummer and electronic musician whose approach to music balances fire and energy with subtlety and timing. From 2015 to 2018 he lived in Tokyo where he collaborated with Tokyo‘s most adventurous improvisers including Akira Sakata, Eiichi Hayashi, Hirose Junji, Toshimaru Nakamura, Fumio Itabashi, Suga Dairo and T. Mikawa to name a few.
