Artist Infomation:

Shayne Bowden:
Shayne Bowden is an Australian sound artist residing in both Sydney and Fukuoka, Japan.
He regularly curates concerts, exhibitions and film screenings under the name deterra which he began in 2004. In 2011 deterra began releasing music of interest to Bowden in cassette, lathe cut record and CD formats. After 10 years of curatorial work in Japan and over one hundred performances Bowden released his first solo recording in 2015.

‘Camorta Close’ is comprised of field recordings and analog electronics. Inherent to this recording is the weight of memory and the past on the present and how those relations can be expressed through sound and effort. Bowden’s solo performance work is mostly driven by the enjoyment of performing live at high volumes and at extreme low sound levels. His main passion above all else is cinema and he has planned a documentary production addition to the deterra project. He is currently writing his Masters thesis on Japanese landscape theory and cross-cultural film at Sydney University. Bowden has collaborated with Nick Hoffman, Guilty C, Anla Courtis, Rob Mayson, Anthony Guerra, WT Nelson and Bastard Noise. He began the Against: Fukuoka Extreme Music/Film Festival in 2008. Against has featured Hijokaidan, Incapacitants, Masonna, Corrupted, Government Alpha, Jazkamer, Hard-Ons, Mani Neumeier, Jim O’Rourke, Paal Nilssen- Love, Lasse Marhaug, Pain Jerk, Anla Courtis, The Thing, Torturing Nurse and Adachi Masao.

 Martin Taxt:
Martin Taxt, born in Trondheim, Norway in 1981, finished his studies at the Academy of Music in Oslo and CNSMDP in Paris in 2006. Since then he has focused on improvised and contemporary music. With the japanese guitar player Tetuzi Akiyama and the Norwegian duo Streifenjunko he has released two albums on the reputable norwegian improv label SOFA. ”Varianter av døde trær” in 2008 and ”Selektiv hogst” with Toshimaru Nakamura in 2010. This quintet now performs under the name Koboku Senjû. Both albums received great critics in magazines such as THE WIRE and SIGNAL TO NOISE. Over the last years Taxt has been touring Europe, Japan, China, USA and Canada with the groups Koboku Senjû, microtub, Muringa and Kim Myhr & TJO. Since 2010 he’s running the label SOFA and he has also been organising the festival Fri Resonans in Trondheim every November since 2006.

Toshimaru Nakamura:
No-input mixing board player
Toshimaru Nakamura's instrument is the no-input mixing board, which describes a way of using a standard mixing board as an electronic music instrument, producing sound without any external audio input. The use of the mixing board in this manner is not only innovative in the the sounds it can create but, more importantly, in the approach this method of working with the mixer demands. The unpredictability of the instrument requires an attitude of obedience and resignation to the system and the sounds it produces, bringing a high level of indeterminacy and surprise to the music. Nakamura pioneered this approach to the use of the mixing board in the mid-1990's and has since then appeared on over one hundred audio publications, including nine solo CD's.

Tetuzi Akiyama:
Guitar player. Born in Tokyo, April 13, 1964. Akiyama specializes in creating music with elements of both primitivism and realism by connecting his own aspirations, in a minimal and straightforward way, to the special instrumental qualities of the guitar. Sometimes delicately and sometimes boldly, he controls sound volumes ranging from micro to macro, in an attempt to convert the body into an electronic entity.

Ryutaro Endo:
Ryutaro Endo is a guitarist based in Tokyo. After studying Photography and Art, he transitioned his creative expression from photography into music. While being part of the Tokyo Avant-garde and improvised music scene, Endo keeps his music rooted in traditional styles such as Jazz and Blues, and performs diversely with various musicians. His solo, on the other hand, uses fundamental guitar tone which somewhat brings nostalgia but also searches for a new possibility at the same time.
