"Michiyo & Miya: Japan - U.S. Koto Summit"
Miya Masaoka: 21-string koto
Michiyo Yagi: 21-string koto, 17-string bass koto
Rare duo performance featuring the two most iconoclastic proponents of the Japanese transverse harp known as the koto. Aichi-born, Tokyo-based Michiyo Yagi is a virtuoso whose original music incorporates elements of free jazz and progressive rock into its traditional foundation. New York-based Miya Masaoka, an award-winning American composer, musician and performance artist who is currently residing in Japan on a Core Fulbright Scholarship, is internationally active as an improviser on the 21-string koto.
From the Hachiko exit of Shibuya station, come out to Hachiko crossing. Take the street to the right of Tsutaya/Starbucks and go straight. When you get to the intersection with MODI, turn left. Pass Disney Store and Loft and look for Tokyo Yamanote Church on the left. Koen Dori Classics is in the basement.
