Yoshie Nakamura
Born in Suzuka City. Started playing the trumpet at the age of 9 in the Tamagaki Elementary School brass band.
During her first year of middle school, she encountered traditional jazz in New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz, and fell in love with it. At the same time, she started working with local show bands, the all-female Latin big band "Maria Elena," and the Edison Dixie Band, and spent her student years immersed in performing all over Japan and overseas.
From the age of 12, he experienced the cultures and music of many countries, including the United States, Jamaica, Cuba, Hawaii, Tahiti, Australia, Singapore, the Philippines, Korea, China, France, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.
At the age of 18, he traveled alone to Harlem, New York, where he studied under world-famous trumpeters Lew Solff and Jon Faddis.
At the age of 19, he made his solo debut at a concert at the Ginza Yamaha Hall (with guests Izumi Yukimura and Norio Maeda) at the recommendation of the late Hidehiko Matsumoto, a jazz legend who was a friend of his father, and since then he has been actively pursuing a solo career.
Her activities have been featured in many newspapers and she has made numerous TV appearances. She appeared in a one-hour live broadcast of "Nakamura Yoshie Talk & Live" for the Tokai NHK "Oasis 21" opening commemorative program. She has also appeared in commercials for the National Health Insurance and JR Ise Railway.
In her hometown of Suzuka, she has been a full-time lecturer for the Board of Education and Yumekobo for 20 years, giving lectures on interacting with children. Since 2009, she has also served as a special ambassador for Suzuka City Sales and a culture ambassador for Suzuka Tokimeki, including creating catchy slogans and building a cultural town for the city.
He also gives lectures and performances at live shows, events, jazz festivals, music appreciation, votive performances, shrine concerts, welfare councils, human rights cultural centers, human rights museums, forest thinning, biodiversity, and other environmental events. He performed at an art festival in Paris in 2010, and in 2013, he performed in Timor-Leste to celebrate the 10th anniversary of diplomatic relations organized by the Japanese Embassy.
Currently, he travels to New Orleans every year, where he performs at the long-established Preservation Hall.
She has performed at the Danny Barker Festival and the French Quarter Festival.
She is active as a traditional jazz musician with her own band, "Yoshie Nakamura Wakuwaku HOT4", and as a solo artist, mainly in the Tokai region and Tokyo, but also all over Japan and overseas.
She treasures every moment of encounter. She loves the New Orleans jazz sound that is so familiar to people in their everyday lives, and with her natural cheerfulness and heartfelt trumpet playing, she creates sounds that brighten up each and every day. With 33 years of experience in the music industry, she is a rare female trumpeter with a New Orleans jazz style who is popular among a wide range of age groups.
~album~
She released her first album in 2012 with her own band, "Nakamura Yoshie Wakuwaku HOT6," and has been spinning the traditional jazz scene originating from her local Tokai region.
Due to the passing of his traditional music buddy, ragtime piano master Dai Itaya, the album recording was about to be canceled. However, a live recording at Asakusa HUB in March 2020 by Itaya and a talented young New Orleans jazz musician from Tokyo called "Careless Nuts5" was released in 2022 and has been well received as a fun, energetic live album.
