TERRO TERRO "TeTrad" Release Party — with Kumorigahara

Two of Tokyo's most uncompromising progressive bands share a bill at Earthdom, the Shin-Okubo basement that has hosted the city's underground for decades. Two bands, two 50-minute sets, finished by 21:00.

Kumorigahara (曇ヶ原) call themselves "progressive hard folk": fragile Japanese folk songwriting that erupts into Crimson-scale heaviness, with floods of Mellotron. Their album on Disk Union's Arcàngelo prog label made them one of the most talked-about bands in the scene.

TERRO TERRO (てろてろ) play what Japanese record shops file as "progressive fastcore" — punk velocity welded to odd meters, polyrhythm, free-jazz saxophone and spoken-word poetry. Think Cardiacs colliding with Ruins. They've shared stages with Tatsuya Yoshida and novelist Kō Machida, and tonight they launch their second album, TeTrad.

Access: 3 min from JR Shin-Okubo (Yamanote Line) / 1 min from JR Okubo (Chuo-Sobu Line). Head west along Okubo-dori; the entrance is the basement beside the Mini Stop.

How to get the advance price: advance tickets are sold over the counter at Earthdom itself. Drop by the venue on an earlier day, pay ¥3,000 and save ¥500 — no Japanese-language ticket site, no online account, no phone call needed. Otherwise just turn up on the night and pay ¥3,500 at the door; no reservation is required either way.
