✦ Masatake Abe

Born in 1993 in Fukushima Prefecture, Masatake Abe is a bassist and composer. He began his musical journey forming his own jazz band in university jazz clubs. Since around 2018, he has also been active in the field of free improvisation, performing energetically throughout Tokyo and beyond.

His long-running projects include trios with Daisuke Fujiwara & Nobuo Fujii; Manabu Kitada & Akira Toyama; Tokutaro Hosoi & Jiro Iwamoto; duos with Taeko Kurita and Shuuya Morishita; as well as groups like Uquwa (with Shoko Numao, Fumi Endo, Yoshinori Shiraishi) and Phipt (with Ken Ikeda, Fumi Endo, Tatsuhisa Yamamoto).

In 2023, he digitally released his first EP “Bracken1” as a duo with guitarist Ryoichiro Masuda. Several of his live recordings have also been released under the improvisation-focused label Ftarri.

✦ Tomo Ando

Born in 1997 in Kashiwa City, Chiba Prefecture, Tomo Ando is a musician and percussionist. With roots in classical music, he now performs across a wide range of styles including orchestral, contemporary classical, solo percussion, and improvisational music.

In the field of improvisation,he plays a wide array of instruments—from various percussion setups and flowerpots to piano and flute. In recent years, he has been based in Minamiboso, Chiba, performing in the duo Tomo Ando & Ryo Kusunose, and leading the project Awa Nite, which connects local words and sounds.

He has collaborated with many notable musicians such as Mami Kakudo, Daiho Soga, Joji Sawada, Ryotaro Miyasaka, and Kojiro Hino.
