The Bass Collective
A globally unique double bass ensemble featuring bassists Kazuhiro Tanabe, Masao Tajima, and Takashi Seo. While drawing on their individual musical backgrounds, their music unfolds diverse landscapes and scenes, creating an entirely new form of string ensemble that transcends the boundaries of the double bass. Their original playing techniques, maximizing the rich overtones and pleasant noise of gut strings, produce a sound that completely renews the image of the double bass. It is incredibly colorful and brimming with vitality, exceeding all expectations. In 2022, they collaborated with dancers Jean Sasportes and Benedict Villiers from Pina Bausch/Wuppertal Dance Company, one of the world's premier dance companies, performing a highly acclaimed show showcasing the exceptional affinity between their music and dance. In March 2024, he released his double-album debut “Shimmering Forest” (NAGALU-009/010), produced by world-renowned drummer Shinya Fukumori. Guitarist and composer Yoshihide Otomo praised it as “an absolutely brilliant masterpiece, a highly meaningful work in today's music scene demanding genre-defying versatility.” They tour extensively across Japan, delivering highly acclaimed performances at every stop. This group is highly anticipated and watched for their future endeavors. https://x.com/Doublebassunit/
