Naoki Kita Quartet – Profile
Formed in 2011 by violinist Naoki Kita, this quartet performs exclusively original compositions by Kita. Drawing from his roots in Argentine tango while integrating elements of free jazz, improvisation, and contemporary music, the ensemble has created a singular musical language—one that is wholly unique and impossible to categorize. Their music, characterized by richly expressive melodies and a refined sense of silence and space, has been widely praised for its profound spirituality.
Each of the four members is regarded as one of Japan’s leading tango musicians on their respective instruments, yet their virtuosity allows them to transcend genres and thrive at the forefront of multiple musical scenes. Together, they achieve a level of expression only possible in this exact formation—one that stirs the listener’s soul and awakens the spirit of duende.
