Join us for the second session in the Mai Petty–curated performance series—a friendly and professional jam night open to vocalists and instrumentalists of all levels. Under the guidance of accomplished hosts Kazuhiro Bessho (piano) and Yuta Omino (bass), this session welcomes singers and musicians to make music, improvise, and collaborate in a supportive, live-salon atmosphere. Bring your lead sheets, your voice, your instrument, and join the musical conversation!
Meet the Hosts
Kazuhiro Bessho (Piano)
Starting piano at age six and encountering jazz at eighteen, Bessho graduated from Chuo University before entering Tokyo’s jazz scene. He became a member of Yasei Collective and Gentle Forest Jazz Band, supporting many top Japanese artists including Sakura Fujiwara, ACO, Keishi Tanaka, and Kenshi Yonezu. A sought-after session player, composer, and educator, Bessho also runs the “Kazuhiro Bessho Music Lab,” a popular workshop series that mixes instruction with relaxed, beer-friendly musical conversation .
Yuta Omino (Bass)
A Tokyo-based bassist with a global background, Omino studied and performed in Europe and has played with saxophonist Cezarius Gadzina and jazz vocalist Satsuki Iida. He performed at major Japanese jazz festivals and maintains an active presence in Tokyo’s jazz clubs and recording studios. With versatility across electric and upright bass in jazz, blues, and pop, Omino blends melodic sensitivity with rhythmic drive; his SoundCloud features tasteful solo work showcasing both grace and groove.
