Collective MIMINOIMI presents the 10th edition of its event series, Food For Ears.
This time, the event will feature a collaborative live performance celebrating the joint album by Yumiko Morioka and Takashi Kokubo, set to be released this March via Métron Records. Additionally, the night will showcase a performance by Finnish musician Olli Aarni and artist Yoichi Kamimura.
In recent years, Yumiko Morioka, an ambient artist undergoing a rapid resurgence in appreciation, and Takashi Kokubo, a prolific and consistent creator, performed together at a concert in 2023. This encounter sparked a connection between the two, leading to an organically developed collaboration.
Though Takashi Kokubo is widely recognized for his ethereal ambient music created with synthesizers, he is also an avid field recording artist, capturing sounds from various locations across the world. Their latest collaboration took shape as Yumiko Morioka drew inspiration from Kokubo’s field recordings, improvising in response, while Kokubo further complemented her expressions with synthesizers and the resonant tones of the Sanukite stone instrument.
The result of this creative exchange is "Gaiaphilia", a work inspired by the Earth itself. It reflects the emotions and sensations the two artists experienced while contemplating the state of the planet, blending their unique artistic voices into a deeply evocative soundscape.
Meanwhile, Olli Aarni, known for seamlessly traversing various musical styles while maintaining exceptional quality, and Yoichi Kamimura, an artist whose practice revolves around field recordings and installation works, have been performing duo live sets in Finland since 2021. The two are currently working on a collaborative album slated for release this fall.
How will "Gaiaphilia" unfold in a live setting? What kind of spontaneous correspondence will emerge between these innovative artists?
Come witness it firsthand—don’t miss this rare and immersive sonic experience!
