NEW SERIES: Pure Freedom #01
Solo improvisation concert by Morgan Fisher
(Keyboards, devices, toys, loopers, drum machines, vocals)

abstract • minimal • ambient • progrock • healing • drone • analog • looping • • •

Morgan Fisher (Mott the Hoople, Queen, Yoko Ono, etc) goes even deeper into the majestic improvised soundscapes he has been creating and refining since he first set foot on Japanese soil in 1985 and decided to stay. Accompanied by his light art and mysterious archive videos.

REVIEW:
"To attend one of Morgan Fisher’s evenings of music is to enter a world of visual and aural delight. He creates a captivating, mesmerizing, total musical-artistic experience. To describe the fullness of it, it is hard to know where to begin. His rack of keyboards is at the center, as he works over them for two hours. The vintage electronics sound nearly acoustic in this age of hyper-digitalized any-sound-will-do tackiness.
His abstract light art and archive videos blur the distinctions between old and new, retro and avant-garde. The music draws on a style of musical expression mined by avant-garde composer/performers like Terry Riley and Brian Eno. Fisher has his own distinctive sound: pleasing cascades of chords, tripping melodies, interplays of rich sonic layers, and a genuinely symphonic expansiveness - an unflagging supply of musical ideas that keep coming delicately and mindfully.
Morgan’s salon is intimate. Because we get to see him create up close, the music, photos and videos carry us in other directions, launching the listening/watching mind into fresh, new spaces. It is an engaging, meditative experience quite unlike any other, and simply not to be missed!"
(Adapted from reviews by Michael Pronko)

Details

Just two stops from Shinjuku on the Keio Line, Morgan Salon is the personal music/art studio of Morgan Fisher, a resident of Tokyo since 1985. Morgan is a British keyboard player and has played with many well-known bands since the 70's, including Mott the Hoople and Queen, and Japanese artists Yoko Ono, Haruomi Hosono, Yellow Monkey, The Boom, Kina Shoukichi and others. From 2003 to 2013 he performed a series of 100 solo ambient improv shows at Superdeluxe (Nishi-Azabu), featuring his collection of vintage analog keyboards and projections of his abstract light paintings. In 2013 he began a new series of solo concerts in his studio. He also invites other musicians and artists to give performances there, in the spirit of the salons of Paris in the 20's, or the lofts of New York in the 60's.
