Artist information:

Katt Hernandez

Katt Hernandez moved to Stockholm in 2010. She works with many projects and musicians in Sweden. Katt's violin playing is focused primarily on freely improvised music, drawing a firey array of electronic-like sounds and keening melodies from her unaltered, acoustic violin. She also works extensively with microtonality, drawn from a study of a mixture of sources, including traditional folk and sacred musics of the Middle East, Turkey, and Eastern Europe, variated odd-ball old Americana, work with modular synthesizers and the Maneri/Sims 72 pitch system. Playing with as wide and unexpected a variety of other performers as possible is tantamount to her sonic and spiritual pursuits. In 2014 she earned a Masters degree in Electroacoustic Composition from Kung. Musikhögskolan (the Royal Music Academy of Sweden), and is now pursuing a Phd in Music at Lund University. Katt worked as a producer for four years, siting on the board of F.R.I.M., working as an assistant producer at Fylkingen and working on the Sound of Stockholm festival. She is also a 13 year veteran of the new, improvised and experimental music scenes in Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New York, both as a performer and an organizer. She has performed and recorded with a vast array of musicians, dancers, visual artists, film makers and performance artists in venues ranging from underground urban art spaces to ivy league concert halls.
Katt Hernandez - SoundCloud

"Another Beantown expat is improvising violinist Katt Hernandez, whose debut solo LP Unlovely (no label) is seriously boss. A student of Joe Maneri, Katt plays in a style that flies through the valley separating new music and free jazz, like a hive of cunning bees. Great inventions." - Bryon Coley and Thurston Moore, Arthur No. 32 (Dec 2008)

Release INFO
Katt Hernandez - SO(U)LEN(SKIN(NER) (LP)
SO(U)LEN)SKIN(NER) is the second solo LP Katt Hernandez has released. After 13 years as a veteran of the variated wonderments of the experimental music scenes of the east coast, Katt moved to Sweden. She became a producer at Fylkingen and several other organizations for new and experimental music, started making electro-acoustic music alongside her long beloved violin at EMS and the Royal Music Academy alike, and is playing all about Sweden and further with a burgeoning tumult of new and fantastic musicians. Eight years after her first record Katt’s violin world, full of micro-tonalities, spectral harmonics, invisible artifacts and secret ululating tales of the impossible, has morphed in this new place.

Mehata Sentimental Legend
Mehata's music explores the subconscious boundaries between light and shadow, vision and hearing, death and rebirth. In a radical fusion of old Japanese ritual music and futuristic psychedelic noise, Mehata's ethereal soundscapes express the transitory states of mind experienced in the fleeting moments when leaving reality and entering a dream, opening the doors to a new era of music from Japan. In his album Noum Zeccyou, the super-future is thus united with the super-past. (Mind Plug Records)
